Hello, and welcome to the wonderful world of Alpacas.  Everyone has a story as to how they became interested in Alpacas. Ours is probably not much different from any other one you've heard or read.

 

I saw my first alpaca on a show on The Animal Planet in 2004. We had moved to Arizona from the Las Vegas area and purchased 41 acres. We built our house and now it was time to find something we could do on our 41 acres to supplement our retirement income. Andy retired from the Marine Corps in 1992. Our roads were not condusive to most 'normal' businesses, so when I saw the alpacas, I knew that was the way to go. Little did I know that I would end up absolutely adoring these gentle creatures.

 

I started researching alpacas on the internet. After much research, I was able to convince Andy to go on a ranch visit with me. We went to Alpacas de la Pacifica and met with John & Tina Malkus. They were a dellightful couple, full of information. Andy & I fell in love with the alpacas. We purchased our first two bred females in March of 2005 and by the time we were ready to bring them home, our two became four with the birth of two beautiful females. What a way to start!
